Queen’s IRC Introduces Organization Development Training for HR Managers
The Queen’s Industrial Relations Centre is introducing a new program and two new certificates in the emerging field of Organization Development (OD) — the most practical, comprehensive training available in Canada.
“Increasingly, HR and OD practitioners must learn to think systematically to align people with strategic purpose in their organizations,” says Brenda Barker-Scott, the IRC faculty member who designed the OD program. “So we’ve synthesized the theory and practice they need to identify where HR can better support strategy, and create interventions for improvement.”
The first offering in IRC’s certificate series is OD Foundations, scheduled for fall 2003. In this one-week program, top trainers — including OD legend Marvin Weisbord — will provide solid grounding in OD’s evolution and its underlying concepts; introduce IRC’s model for understanding what optimal OD looks like and how it can be achieved; teach the action research consulting process for partnering with client groups; and help participants with personal plans for their own OD development.
OD Foundations is the cornerstone of the Queen’s IRC OD Certificate and the OD Master Certificate for advanced practitioners. Drawing on IRC’s long-standing expertise in HR/IR training and leading-edge research, OD programs include practicum sessions, and are built around simulations, role-playing, and other experiential exercises.
“People will walk away from our programs with the OD tools of the trade, and a solid knowledge of how to use them to build better structures in their own organizations,” says Barker-Scott.
Organization Development Foundations:
September 28 to October 3, 2003
