Energize your career and expand your horizons.
Here are a few ways IRC programs can help.
Become a proud part of the Queen's family
As the oldest degree-granting institution in Canada, Queen's University enjoys an enviable international reputation for excellence in education and research, consistently ranking near the top of all Canadian universities on a host of academic benchmarks. Many of the practitioner programs offered by the Industrial Relations Centre feature faculty or draw research from the School of Business and the Master's of Industrial Relations program, esteemed sister units at Queen's.
Be assured of the most relevant programs that address the real-world skills you need
The IRC focuses on developing and delivering industrial relations and organization development programs for busy practitioners. We have deep and broad knowledge of these areas. As a result of extensive continuous research and more than 60 years of experience, we have identified the core competencies every industrial relations, organization development, and human resources practitioner needs to be successful. Each of our programs focuses on one of these essential skills.
Experience utterly engaging education
Imagine the excitement of presenting a mock arbitration case before an experienced arbitrator or assessing a company's readiness for change using a leading-edge multimedia simulation. At Queen's IRC, we believe in learning by doing. Boasting an impressive level of on-site support, our programs are designed to put you at the centre of the action, where real learning takes place and take-away lessons take root. Our teaching methodology was recognized in 2005, when the IRC was honoured with the prestigious Vision Award (to learn more go to: http://www.thevisionawards.org).
Learn from knowledgeable and talented faculty
The people leading our programs are carefully chosen for their professional experience and their ability to engage adult learners. They are drawn from the faculty ranks at Queen's, from the offices of top labour lawyer firms, from consultants working on the front line with organizations going through changes, from union leaders and captains of industry. These are people at the top of their game, eager to help you gain an edge.
Broaden your network of like-minded practitioners
IRC programs are intense, demanding learning experiences; we make no apology. You will be learning as much from fellow participants as from faculty. From such intense shared experiences are born friendships that you will turn to for years to come. As you encounter tough organizational challenges, learn from your IRC-inspired network of colleagues how others have approached situations and get validation and encouragement for your own decisions.
Enjoy value-added benefits as a Queen's IRC alum
Once you complete your first program, you enter the ranks of Queen's IRC alumni, which entitles you to several value-added benefits that will allow you to extend your training and give your organization lasting benefits. Here are some examples of IRC alumni aftercare:
If you require a refresher on some aspect of what you have learned, you are invited to return to a program that you have completed. You pay only for meals and learning materials.
Visit a password-protected section of the Queen's IRC website that is dedicated to providing additional information and research findings to IR and OD/HR alumni.
Enjoy a subscription to the IRC monthly newsletter that features Q&A pieces with faculty and stories from alumni on how they use what they have learned from their program.
Many faculty members are available to answer your follow-up queries after you return to your organizations and put your learning into practice. Contact the IRC directly and we will attempt to get prompt answers to your queries.
